About

In addition to being an Audio Engineer, Tucker is also a composer, musician and all around lover of music. His diverse musical interests manifested early when he began to take piano lessons around the same time that he discovered heavy metal music by listening to the likes of Motley Crue and Quiet Riot.

While attending Jefferson Highschool in Cedar Rapids, Iowa he began to take music more seriously, taking up the bass guitar, which he played in both original and cover bands, as well as school jazz band and show choir band. It was also at this time that he began to learn rudimentary drumming and orchestral percussion in marching band and concert band, respectively.

This trend continued in college where he played both electric and string bass in the backing combo for Kirkwood Community College’s “Jazz Transit” while studying Music Theory and Composition. During his university experience, 1 year at the University of Northern Iowa and 2 years at KCC, Tucker also discovered MIDI which would lead first a vast new world of music composition and then on to professional recording and music production.

In June of 1997, after attending UNI and KCC, Tucker enrolled in the Recording Arts Degree Program at Full Sail Real World Education, in Orlando, Florida. In September of 1998 he graduated Full Sail with an Associates of Science Degree in Recordinng Technology and immediately moved to New York, NY to pursue professional Audio Engineering full time. He started off with an internship at SONY Music Studios, which over the course of a year-and-a-half transitioned into being a full time Assistant Engineer. After leaving SONY he worked as a Freelance Engineer for various clients and projects including Philip Glass, Guiness Beer, BMW Motorcycles, Life Savers and again at SONY as an Production Engineer in the Classical/Jazz/Mastering/Production departments. Finally, it was during his last year in NYC that Tucker Burnes Recording, previously known as TMB Productions, was unofficially started by beginning to offer recording services based out of his Queens apartment.

In August of 2002 Tucker moved back home to Cedar Rapids, mainly because of the financial fallout of September 11th, 2001. Within a few months he was connecting with old and new friends, many of which were quickly turning into clients. The recording business was slowly starting to take off. At first the studio moved around between the basements of a few friends. In the spring of 2004 the studio took a major step up by moving into The Church of Rock in Toddville. That lasted about a year and a half until he moved in with his then fiance in Cedar Rapids. In the fall of 2005, in addition to running his own company, Tucker accepted the position of Staff Audio Engineer for the Arts & Humanities Department at Kirkwood Community College.

Currently, Tucker lives in Iowa City with his wife Katie, a cellist and Orchestra Director at Jefferson Highschool in Cedar Rapids, IA, and his son, Jackson Adrian.
