~ 2010 Iowa Motion Picture Association Awards ~

On April 9th I was informed that I was nominated for an Iowa Motion Picture Association Award of Achievement in the category of "Soundtrack Audio Mix" for my work on the Artists Recovery Fund DVD featuring Greg Brown, Sam Knutson, Bill Peterson and Comics In Action, back in November of 2008.  Video production was handled by Dreamcatcher Production.  I am happy to announce that on May 1st I was awarded the the IMPA Award of Achievement in the category of "Soundtrack Audio Mix"!  This is the first time I've been honored with an award for my work in my 12 years as a professional Audio Engineer.  To see and hear a sample of the DVD click here.  If you would like to support the cause by purchasing a DVD, please click here.

~ Insectoid & Studio Surround Sound Capability ~

In July of 2009 I was employed by Loren Lang, keyboardist, vocalist and founder of the Iowa City Rocksynthefunktronica band, Insectoid, as recording, mixing and mastering engineer for the first Insectoid studio album.  The album is in progress and the final product will be released as a standard stereo CD as well as a 5.0 surround sound DVD with video, sometime in 2011.  This is the first surround sound project I have engineered from beginning to end and it has been and continues to be a very interesting learning experience and unique project.  For more info go to the Insectoid MySpace page for details on the production of the album.  If you would like to be notified of Insectoid performances, album release info, etc you can also become of fan of Insectoid on Facebook.  If that's not cool enough, last fall I was asked by Loren and Collin Crowley (drums and percussion) to join the band on guitar and bass!  About two weeks later Ben Franklin joined on drums and percussion!  Since that time we've played 5 gigs and have one more on the schedule...the Hoodilidoo Music Festival at The Willow Ranch, 95 Grand Junction Michigan.  For the rest of the summer we will be focusing on the production of the album, which is still in the recording stage at this point.  I've had an operational 5.1 surround sound monitoring system for a few months now and I continue to experiment and refine the room/acoustics setup as we go deeper into the production of the Insectoid album.

~ Kirkwood Electronics Engineering Program ~

This fall, after 12 years of working professionally and operating my own business as my full time career, I will be going back to school at Kirkwood Community College to earn my second degree, which will be an Associates of Applied Science degree from the Electronics Engineering Program.  During this time Tucker Burnes Recording will morph into Tucker Burnes Audio Engineering to accurately reflect the scope of the business.  In addition to the services I already offer there will be a heavier emphasis on mastering and I may be expanding into other facets of audio engineering such as equipment design, construction, modification, maintenance, studio wiring, etc.  More details will be posted here as this situation develops.
